August 6, 2010

Hackney Marshes, long the home of grassroots football in east London, will soon be hosting cricket games.

Eastlondonlines reports that the recreation area will see the development of eight new cricket grounds, which are set to open next summer.

The development funded by Hackney Council and the England and Wales Cricket Board will include seven artificial cricket pitches and three fine turf squares.

A new Hackney Marshes Centre will also be built, providing changing rooms, refreshment areas and classrooms.

New balls please: tennis tussle at Clissold Park | Stoke Newington

March 15, 2010

A row has erupted between tennis players, residents and other users of Clissold Park over the provision of floodlights for tennis courts.

People living around the park argue that lighting provided as part of a £8.9m lottery-funded refurbishment will blight their evenings, while others have raised concerns that some groups would get ‘secret private access’ at night.
