July 14, 2010

A production documenting the lives and experiences of people in a rapidly changing area of south London has opened in the Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre

Southwark-based Mayhem Company’s production will be performed in the Royal Court’s Theatre Local space in an empty unit on the upper floor of the complex.

The SE1 blog reports that 50 members of the community were interviewed, including former residents of the Heygate Estate, and their stories turned into a play.

Candidate proposes temporary BMX track for south London estate

May 5, 2010

South London blog SE1 is interviewing candidates for the Bermondsey and Old Southwark seat. One of them suggested this novel temporary use for an estate at Elephant and Castle as it awaits its regeneration:

“We need to get on with the demolition as quickly as possible. We need to use any space that is vacant for temporary things if we can. I’ve suggested that if there’s a vacant space at the Elephant we might have an international standard BMX track as a temporary use.”

You can find out which candidate is suggesting this via this link.
